Mathura: The Mathura-based One Strike Corps, a military field formation of Indian Army, celebrated its 50th Raising Day here on Wednesday.

Lt General A B Shivane, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Strike 1 offered floral tributes at the War Memorial as a mark of respect to martyrs, an official statement said.

The GOC then addressed officers of the Strike 1 Corps and complemented them for their extraordinary professionalism, camaraderie, esprit-de-corps, self sacrifice and devotion to duty, it stated.

The celebrations included an entertainment program followed by 'bara khana' where the troops interacted with each others' families, it said.

The Strike 1 was raised at Varanasi on April 1, 1965 under the command of Lieutenant General P O Dunn, it informed.

Since raising, the Strike 1 Corps has excelled in all spheres, exhibiting the highest standard of professionalism, it added.
