Agra: Terming Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister
Mayawati`s proposal to divide UP into three smaller states as
"political stunt", Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday said that she
was never serious what she said.
Speaking to reporters, BJP state unit president Ramapati
Ram Tripathi said the party was not against formation of
smaller states, but wanted the matter to be considered
independently in a comprehensive manner, taking into view all
aspects.
He said that states should not be carved out merely for
political ends, there should be strong and cogent reasons for
their formation. If a proper proposal came out, the BJP would
give due thought to it.
The BJP leader also said that party had submitted a
36-page charge sheet against Mayawati Government to UP
Governor, who had promised to take up the issue.
Tripathi said one of the main points raised in the charge
sheet was uncontrolled rise in prices of essential items.
