Meerut: At least 150 people were booked for smearing posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the city during a protest called by businessmen and traders.

According to PTI, city-based businessmen and bullion traders had organised a demonstration on March 23, at Begumpul in Meerut during which protestors smeared posters of Modi and Jaitley with ink and also threw eggs at them.

An FIR was registered on Sunday in which five people were named in the complaint. Meanwhile, a police official told PTI that process is underway to identify 145 others in connection with the case.

On the other hand, the bullion traders association denied any link of its member in blackening of the posters. "The Association has no link with the people who were involved in blackening the posters and throwing eggs at them. Police should take action against those involved in the incident and not against the innocent," Saraf said.

Meanwhile, Congress has also threatened the government to stage protest if complaints against the traders were not withdrawn.
