Kanpur: A 10-year-old boy made a hoax bomb blast call to the police control room here after watching a television soap which showed police reaching on the spot within minutes of dialling 100 by the actor.
Shameem, a resident of Ravatpur here, dialled 100 yesterday and informed the city police of a blast at an intersection near a salt factory in Ravatpur, police said.
Many police teams rushed to the spot and found the news to be false.
On investigation, it was known that the news came from the child, police said, adding, the boy confessed that he called the police to see whether they reach immediately on the spot as shown in a television serial.
The family members were pulled up by the police and the child was given a warning to not repeat the mistake in future, SP, Rural, Anil Mishra said.
Since it was a 10-year-old boy who made the call, we let him off with a warning, Mishra said, adding, police would have taken an action if the call was made by an adult.
