One killed, two injured in UP`s riot-hit Faridpur town

A 36-year-old man was shot dead and two others injured as fresh trouble broke out in riot hit Faridpur town, near here, officials said here.

dead and two others injured as fresh trouble broke out in riot
hit Faridpur town, near here, officials said here.

Prem Pal alias Pappu was shot dead by unidentified
persons and two others sustained bullet injuries in Midhani
locality of the town, about 25 kms from here, in sporadic
incidents of clashes, they said.

Though heavy force has been deployed across the town and
undeclared curfew like situation prevailed, the rioters also
torched two trucks in Line Paar area, they said.

The administration officials said heavy police force has
been deployed in sensitive areas including Koharapeer,

Guddadbagh, Subhash Nagar, Sanjay Nagar and old areas and all
schools and colleges have been closed.

Trouble broke out last evening when members of a
community allegedly pelted stones and opened fire on a
religious procession by kanwariyas.

This led to clash between the two communities members as
mob went on rampage, torched three-dozen shops, indulged in
brick batting and exchanged fires.

In a bid to control the situation police and PAC resorted
to lathicharge lobbed tear gas shells and fired in the air at
a number of places.

More than three dozen people, including district
magistrate, DIG and other administration and policemen were
injured in the clashes.

The officials said since last night at least 40 people
have been arrested in connection with clashes and raids were
being carried out to nab others.

"While additional force from neighbouring districts has
been called, four companies each of RAF nd PAC has been
deployed," they said.
