Inspector General of Police, Gorakhpur and DIG, Basti have been directed to look into an alleged CD of jailed MLA Amarmani Tripathi in which he is shown campaigning for his son.

Lucknow: Inspector General of Police,
Gorakhpur and DIG, Basti have been directed to look into an
alleged CD of jailed MLA Amarmani Tripathi in which he is
shown campaigning for his son.

"IG, Gorakhpur and DIG, Basti have been asked to look into
the CD being aired on some news channels," Additional Director
General of Police Subesh Kumar Singh told reporters here.

Tripathi, who was convicted in poet Madhumita murder case,
is currently lodged in Haridwar jail.

The CD purportedly shows Amarmani appealing in favour of
his son, who has been given ticket by SP for forthcoming Uttar
Pradesh Assembly elections.

Singh said Tripathi was brought to Siddharth Nagar via
Gorakhpur to appear before a court on December 3. "Tripathi
came in the morning, attended the court and left the same
day," he said.

The ADG said he had been informed about a CD in which some
persons were trying to take a statement of the MLA in the
court premises, but it was refused by a lawyer.
