Release rest of money for rain-hit farmers: UP CM writes to PM

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to sanction the remaining Rs 4,700 cr of the Rs 7,543 cr- memorandum sent by the Uttar Pradesh government for relief of farmers affected by hailstorm or untimely rains.

Lucknow: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to sanction the remaining Rs 4,700 cr of the Rs 7,543 cr- memorandum sent by the Uttar Pradesh government for relief of farmers affected by hailstorm or untimely rains.

"In hailstorms in February, March and April months, the farmers suffered heavy losses and to provide them relief state government had sent a memorandum of Rs 7,543.14 crores to the Centre on May 2. Of the total demand, Rs 2,801.59 crores were sanctioned by the Centre," Akhilesh said in his letter.

He also sought to know the basis on which only Rs 2,801.59 crores were sanctioned to the state while requesting to release the remaining amount.

The state has disbursed Rs 3,447 crores as relief to 86 lakh farmers, he said, adding, the sanctioned amount was insufficient for providing relief to the farmers of the state.
