Lucknow: Union Minister Sachin Pilot
on Wednesday questioned the rationale of Uttar Pradesh government
spending crores of rupees of public funds on parks and
memorials in the state when dalits are facing "immense
hardship" in the state.

"What benefit could these parks being built through
crores of rupees of public funds be to dalits and other
deprived sections of society facing immense hardship in UP?"
the Minister of State for Information Technology asked.
Referring to media reports that the Uttar Pradesh
government was planning to raise a force for the security of
these monuments, Pilot told reporters it would be a further
wastage of public funds.

"A force for the security of dalits and other
deprived sections who are facing hardships in UP could have
been a better option," Pilot said.

In the wake of party`s good show in the last Lok Sabha
elections, Pilot claimed that the countdown of the BSP
government in Uttar Pradesh had begun as the public was in
favour of the Congress, which would come to power after the
next assembly elections.

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi`s efforts in
the Youth Congress and otherwise have proved that people are
getting connected with the Congerss in a big way, he said.
"The workers` feedback and our own report is that
people consider Congress as the only party which can provide
stability," Pilot said, rejecting the party`s dismal show in
the by-elections to the 11 Vidhan Sabha seats.

He alleged the results were a result of misuse of
official machinery.

Expressing concern over rising prices, the union
minister exuded confidence that it would be controlled with
the help of steps taken by the Centre and asked state
governments to take necessary steps required for the purpose
on their part.

Giving an account of the achievements of his
department, he said all villages would be connected with
broadband in three years time and Y-max technology would be
launched in Uttar Pradesh soon to facilitate quick data
transfer.
