Save life of MLA accused in attack on UP min: SP to Governor

Samajwadi Party leaders on Monday met Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi and demanded him to intervene in ensuring safety to its MLA Vijay Mishra.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party leaders on Monday met Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi and demanded him to intervene in ensuring safety to its MLA Vijay Mishra, an accused in bomb attack on cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta `Nandi`, saying there is a credible threat to the legislator`s life.

A delegation of SP leaders, led by state party president Akhilesh Yadav and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Shivpal Yadav, met the Governor and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

The SP leaders claimed that Mishra has been framed falsely in a case related to attempt on the life of UP Minister for Institutional Finance Nandi on July 12 near his Allahabad house. Police had announced a reward of Rs 15,000 on the head of absconding SP MLA.

"A plot is being hatched to kill Mishra, since he ensured SP`s victory in by-elections in Bhadoi two years back," they alleged.

The SP leaders further alleged that a fake case was lodged against another party MLA Ghazala Lari and his father Tayyab Qureshi in Lucknow in a bid to create political
pressure.

"While, SP leaders are being framed in fake cases, no action was being taken against ruling party MLAs involved in cases of abduction and murder," they alleged.

The delegation also accused BSP for violence in village elections and claimed that Isauli MLA Chandrabhadra Singh alias Sonu and his brother Monu Singh, with their aides,
abducted and killed a revenue department official Ram Kumar Yadav after his wife refused to withdraw from panchayat polls.
