Gorakhpur: Asking its workers to unite and prepare for a "do or die" battle in the UP elections, the
Samajwadi Party, which is hoping to woo back Muslim voters,
today accused the BSP and the Congress of meting out
"stepmotherly" treatment to the community.
The party also launched a frontal attack on the
Mayawati government on the issue of law and order in its
political and economic resolution, alleging that the situation
had turned worst and "while police has gone out of control,
the government is shielding culprits".
"The assembly elections are due next year and to oust
the anti-people government in the state is the biggest target
of the party for which its is necessary for the workers to get
united, connect with masses and prepare for the polls," said
the resolution passed in the state-level convention said.
"The convention calls for `do or die` battle and hopes
that the workers will go out in field with this slogan and
spirit," it added.
Terming the state government as anti-Muslim, the
Samajwadi Party said the "attitude of the Centre and the state
had always being step-motherly towards Muslims.
"The party demands that recommendations of Sachchar
committee and Rangnath Mishra commission should be implemented
immediately," the resolution said.
Accusing Congress of "cheating" Muslims, the SP raised
the issue of "innocent youths" of the minority community being
arrested in Malegaon and Mecca mosque blasts cases.
SP, which was in power in UP three times, lost to BSP
in the 2007 Assembly polls getting 97 of the 403 seats. In the
2009 Lok Sabha elections, its tally dropped to 23 from 39.
Azam Khan, who was once the Muslim face of the party,
fell out with the leadership over Mulayam Singh Yadav
joining hands with Kalyan Singh, who was the Uttar Pradesh
Chief Minister when Babri mosque was demolished, and the
SP chief`s close association with Amar Singh.
After the electoral reverses, Mulayam snapped ties
with Kalyan.
Khan too returned to the party fold in December after
his bete-noir Amar Singh was expelled from the party in
February last year for indulging in anti-party activities.
The party said that it was unfortunate that during the
regime of a woman Chief Minister, "atrocities like rape are
being committed against women and girls".
Citing the Banda rape case, it alleged that ministers
and MLAs were indulging in criminal activities, but no action
was being taken against them.
The party claimed that action against independent MLA
Raghuraj Pratap Singh its other leaders was political vendetta
and demanded that the government withdraw the sedition case
against Azam Khan for his comment on Kashmir.
Slamming the Centre for scams related to 2G spectrum
allocation and Commonwealth Games preparation, the SP demanded
that properties earned through corrupt practices be seized and
the government ensure comprehensive action against the guilty
instead of cosmetic ones.
It also condemned the state government for "misusing"
state funds for constructing parks and statues despite the
poor economic condition of the state and termed it as a
"criminal act".
The party alleged that the state government was
"politicising" the government machinery, which it said was a
serious threat to the democratic system.
It also alleged that the government move for indirect
elections of mayors and chairman of urban local bodies was an
"anti-democratic step".
The party also demanded that support price of wheat
should not be less than Rs 1600 in the interest of farmers,
who it claimed were facing tough times due to high cost of
production.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Pathak brother of BSP`s Rajya Sabha
member Brijesh Pathak today joined SP in the presence of state
president Akhilesh Yadav.
