Tension in UP village after couple elopes

Tension prevailed in Tana village in Prabhud Nagar district after a boy eloped with a girl from a different community.

Muzaffarnagar (UP): Tension prevailed in Tana
village in Prabhud Nagar district here as a group of persons allegedly attempted to set afire a religious place after a boy eloped with a girl from a different community.
The couple had eloped on December 22 and the two have been
missing since then, Additional Superintendent of Police Hira
Lal said today.

Police said that protesting against the incident, a few
miscreants tried to set afire a religious place but the police
were immediately informed and they rushed to the site.

"Several police officials have been deployed in the area
considering the tension prevailing in the area. We are trying
our best to calm things down here," he said.
A community panchayat was also convened on the matter and
police have been asked bring back the girl or the community
members would stage a gherao at Ghadipukhta police station
here, Lal said.
