In the wake of terrorist threat on the State Assembly, the Uttar Pradesh government has banned demonstrations and agitations in front of the Vidhan Bhawan building.

Lucknow: In the wake of terrorist threat
on the State Assembly, the Uttar Pradesh government has banned
demonstrations and agitations in front of the Vidhan Bhawan
building.

"In view of the terrorist threat to the Vidhan Bhawan
and inconvenience caused to people due to traffic jams due to
demonstrations, the government has decided to impose an
immediate ban on agitation opposite the assembly building," a
government spokesman said here today.

He said two alternative sites -- Jhulelal Park and
Shaheed Smarak have been identified for holding demonstrations
and agitations.

"Intelligence agencies had informed that terrorists
were planning attacks in several cities of the country,
including Lucknow," he said.

The state government is taking full caution regarding
the security of Vidhan Bhawan. Security has also been beefed
up at all important installations in the state capital, he
added.

He said that several demonstrations were being
organised in front of the Vidhan Bhawan every other day.

"Terrorists can carry out a big strike by joining
these demonstrations, which are also causing traffic jams.
Considering all these points, the state government has decided
to shift the dharna sthal elsewhere," he said.
