UP legislators get salary hike on last day of budget session

In a windfall for legislators in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday announced a substantial hike in their salary and emoluments on the last day of the over month-long budget session.

Lucknow: In a windfall for legislators in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday announced a substantial hike in their salary and emoluments on the last day of the over month-long budget session.

The salary of the MLAs has been raised to Rs 10,000 from Rs 8,000 and the constituency allowance to Rs 30,000 from Rs 22,000 a month, he announced towards the fag end of the day's sitting.

Similarly, their secretariat allowance has been raised to Rs 15,000 from Rs 10,000, medical allowance to Rs 20,000 from Rs 10,000 and daily allowance to Rs 1,000 from Rs 750, he said.

The Chief Minister also announced enhancing of their Railway coupons to Rs 3.25 lakh from Rs 2.5 lakh annually and Rs 18,000 per month for the purpose of fuel of private vehicles from Rs 10,000.

He also announced increase in the emoluments of former MLAs raising it to Rs 10,000 from Rs 8,000, besides increasing their monthly pension.

The Railway coupons of former legislators has been increased to Rs 80,000 from Rs 60,000.

The CM said their family pension will also be raised.

Hailing the contribution of the staff of both the Houses of the Legislature in the smooth conduct of the Budget session, he said their extra allowance will now be Rs 7,500 from Rs 6,000 and promised to look into their other demands.
