UP Police cracks Gauri Srivastav murder case; friend arrested

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday stated that they have successfully solved the murder case of Gauri Srivastava and have arresting her friend for the crime.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday stated that they have successfully solved the murder case of Gauri Srivastava and have arresting her friend for the crime.

The case refers to the brutal murder of the 20 year old law student, whose chopped body parts were found in Lucknow`s Sahid Path area.

"On February 1, CCTV footage shows Gauri was with her friend on a motorcycle near Latouche Road. She had left her home saying that she would return in 10 minutes, but when she did not return even after three to four hours, her family members informed the police," Senior Superintendent of Police (Lucknow) Yashasvi Jain told the media.

"On February 2, Gauri`s dismembered body was found near the SGPGI Road police station. Her limbs, torso, head, were found stuffed in jute bags," he added.

During the investigations, police traced Gauri`s location through her mobile. The police reportedly found the location of the killer by analysing the internet usage of the victim`s phone.

"We used many advanced methods to investigate the case, such as electronic surveillance and call data record analysis. We also used the internet log analysis, which enabled us to locate the murderer`s house," Jain said, adding that her mobile has been recovered from the accused.

According to reports, the police have also recovered the saw used in the murder.

The murderer has reportedly confessed to his crime during interrogation. The police have announced a cash reward to the team which solved the case.
