Woman's half-naked body found in Shamli village

An unidentified woman's half-naked body was found in a sugarcane field at Rampur Kheri village in neighbouring Shamli district, police said on Saturday.

Muzaffarnagar: An unidentified woman's half-naked body was found in a sugarcane field at Rampur Kheri village in neighbouring Shamli district, police said on Saturday.

Police suspect that the woman, appearing to be in her late 20s, was raped before being strangled to death.

The body, which was was found in the field yesterday by a farmer, has been sent for postmortem, a police official said.

"The autopsy report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death but it appears that the woman was first raped and then strangled," he said.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against unidentified persons.

Meanwhile, in another case, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Shamli's Ghari Doletpur village.

According to the complaint lodged by the minor's father, the accused, Tasuwer (22), forcibly took the girl to his house and raped her there.

A case has been registered against Tasuwer under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), SHO Pankaj Verma said.
