Work on to drape Maya statues, BSP symbol in UP

Reports from Noida said statues of elephant were draped at Dalit Prerna Sthal and work would be completed by tomorrow.

Noida/Lucknow: The exercise to cover up
statues of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo
Mayawati and her party symbol elephant were on Tuesday carried out
in these two cities as per directives of the Election
Commission.

In Lucknow, the exercise started from Bhimrao Ambedkar
Samajik Parivartan Sthal, including Samajik Parivartan Prateek
Sthal, which houses more than 50 statues of Mayawati and BSP
poll symbol elephant.

"At around 11 AM, a team of workers reached the Bhimrao
Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal at Gomti Nagar in Lucknow
and started erecting an iron structure around a statue of
elephant which will be used to put the cover," officials said
here.

Similarly, an exercise has been started at the Samajik
Parivartan Sthal where Mayawati`s statue has been installed
along with BSP founder Kanshiram, they said.

By late evening, around eight statues of elephant have
been covered with yellow tarpaulin and the work continued at
the site, they said.

Though an iron structure was erected on both sides at
Prateek Sthal, the statue of Mayawati and murals on the side
walls could not be covered, the officials said.

Meanwhile, one statue of Mayawati was covered with ply
fixed on a wooden structure at Smriti Upvan.

Reports from Noida said statues of elephant were draped at
Dalit Prerna Sthal and work would be completed by tomorrow.

The site has 30 elephant statues made of stone and 22
elephant statues made of bronze. Besides, it has two statues
of Mayawati.

The Election Commission had directed the District
Election Officers of the two districts to cover statues of
Mayawati and elephants at various parks and memorials by
January 11.
