Narendra Modi visits Uttarakhand, conducts aerial survey of flood hit areas

Dehradun: Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi visited the flood affected areas of Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts of Uttarakhand on Saturday.

Modi conducted an areal survey of rain-ravaged areas here where flash floods have claimed over five hundred lives and left thousands of pilgrims for Himalayan shrines stranded.
The Bharatiya Janata Party election campaign chief said, "Kudos to the people of Uttarakhand who have helped out the pilgrims in this time of crisis."

Modi who reached Uttarakhand yesterday night said the natural calamity that struck Uttarakhand has the proportions of a national tragedy.

After taking a survey of the flood affected area Modi said, "There is a need of food, medicines and rescuing those who are stranded there."

The Gujarat government has also put into operation two chartered planes 747 Boeings (Jet Airways) with a capacity of 140 persons each to ferry pilgrims from the state stuck in high altitude areas to Ahmedabad.
