Cracking the whip on the traffic violations and keeping in view the rising number of fatal motorbike accidents in India, Zee Media carried out a reality check on helmets. Low quality helmets that have been flooding the markets are mostly being preferred by college goers. Just to escape being caught by the police, these helmets fail to protect people. Roadside sellers on the National Highway and other small shops at major junctions in the city have been selling helmets at a very low cost ranging between Rs 150 and Rs 500, while the cost of a good quality helmet with ISI certification starts at Rs 1,000.
