Accused have definite links with nun gang-rape case: DCP

Punjab Police today booked and arrested the four Bangladesh nationals, who were earlier detained for allegedly raping a elderly nun in West Bengal, for their suspected involvement in crimes in the district.

 The police also said that accused have "definite links" to the gang-rape of a 72-year-old nun at a convent in West Bengal's Nadia district on March 14, however, local police is still awaiting for their West Bengal counterparts to arrive and identify the accused.

 Ludhiana's Deputy Commissioner of Police Naveen Singla said, "However, we had informed them well in time."

 The four accused were detained on March 31.

 He said that as the raids were conducted on the inputs of the West Bengal police, so it was now their duty to identify the accused at the earliest.

  Meanwhile, Singla said that the city police have booked all the four persons in different cases on the basis of the crimes committed by them in the past two weeks in Ludhiana.

 He said the four accused had now been arrested. He also said that they were Bangladeshi nationals.

     Earlier, the police had said that it was confirmed during the preliminary investigations that all the four persons were dreaded criminals and they had created havoc in the state of West Bengal and nearby areas.
