Angry mob attacks police team in West Bengal, vehicle damaged

 An angry mob on Saturday allegedly assaulted some police personnel and damaged a police vehicle at the Baniara village under the Murarai police station limits in Birbhum district.

Suri: An angry mob on Saturday allegedly assaulted some police personnel and damaged a police vehicle at the Baniara village under the Murarai police station limits in Birbhum district.

A team from the Murarai police station went to the village after reports reached the station that three residents of Baniara village were kidnapped by the people of Kanakpur.

"The two neighbouring villages have an old rivalry and when our team reached Baniara to investigate the matter, they were surrounded and abused. Stones were thrown at them and a vehicle was damaged," said a senior officer of Murarai police station.

Denying an assault to the police personnel, Birbhum district Superintendent of Police Mukesh said "The Police had gone to investigate a local dispute between two villages. While discussing the issue with the villagers, some unknown persons threw stones, which damaged the windshield of a police vehicle. The case is being investigated."
