Bandh in Nadia's Nakashipara over Panchayat Pradhan's murder

A 12-hour bandh was on Sunday observed in Nakashipara block of Nadia district by CPI(M) in protest against the murder of a Gram Panchayat pradhan belonging to the Marxist party.

Krishnanagar: A 12-hour bandh was on Sunday observed in Nakashipara block of Nadia district by CPI(M) in protest against the murder of a Gram Panchayat pradhan belonging to the Marxist party.

Reports said the shutdown evoked mixed response in most parts of the block with shops downing shutters, markets closed and vehicles off the road.

The TMC accused CPI(M) of inciting trouble in the area and termed the bandh as a failure.

There was no report of any violence during the shutdown including Dhananjaypur gram panchayat pocket where the shootout took place killing Firoz Dafadar, the gram panchayat pradhan yesterday.

Dafadar a resident of Matchpota village was going to Dhananjaypur village on his motorcylce when some miscreants stopped his bike and shot him dead at around 5.30 pm yesterday.

To protest the killing of Dafadar, the CPI(M) yesterday blocked the National Highway-34 for about two hours in front of Nakashipara police station.

CPI(M) MLA of Palshipara S M Sadi alleged that "TMC sheltered miscreants killed Dafadar. TMC is trying to come to power forcefully through killing."

Refuting the allegations of Sadi, Ashoke Dutta, TMC Nakashipara block president said, "The murder is a fall out of CPI(M)'s internal feud."
