Kolkata: The series of poll debacles
especially after the by-election results yesterday, prompted
junior Left Front partner West Bengal Socialist Party to
demand advancing the 2011 Assembly elections.

"The people`s mandate has gone against the Left Front and
it is high time that the government recommends early assembly
elections. We should sit in the opposition in the assembly,"
party President and state Fisheries minister Kironmoy Nanda
told reporters at Writers` Buildings.

Nanda said that his party had decided to urge the Left
Front chairman for convening an immediate meeting of the Front
and finalise early assembly elections.

He said that the Front should have gone for assembly
polls after the humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
