Bankura (WB): Presence of Maoist in Bankura
district is a matter of concern and state government is taking
steps to contain it, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee
said on Saturday.
Speaking to a gathering here during distribution of
`pattas` (land rights) of forest land to 938 tribals from
Jangal Mahal area, he said, "Maoist problem was a matter of
concern".
The Jangal Mahal area stretches across West Midnapore,
Bankura and Purulia districts. The `pattas` were distributed
in keeping with a Bill passed in Parliament in 2006 which
recognised the rights of tribals over forest land where they
were living for generations.
Later, Bhattacharjee met top district police officials
to discuss the Maoist problem.
About 1,000 policemen were deployed as a security
measure in the insurgency-hit area.
