School student arrested on suspicion of being Maoist

Joint forces arrested a school student suspecting him to be a Maoist, triggering widespread protests by his classmates and teachers at Mohanpur near here, police said.

Jhargram (WB): Joint forces today arrested
a school student suspecting him to be a Maoist, triggering
widespread protests by his classmates and teachers at Mohanpur
near here, police said.

Gouranga Khilari (15), a class X student of a local
school, was initially detained and later arrested while he was
going to school from home this morning, they said.
Angry at the action of the joint force, Gouranga`s
class mates, teachers and villagers blocked the National
Highway 6 near Baksole village till 3 pm, police said.

"Dubbing Gouranga as a Maoist is not only an insult to
the hapless student, but also reflects the desperation of the
joint force who have failed to curb rebel activities in
Junglemahal even after two years," a school master said.

The blockade was lifted after a promise by the forces
to release the student.
Meanwhile, the body of a person identified as Baria
Soren (41) with bullet wounds was found near a canal at
Panchami under Jhargram police station. He was abducted from
his house by a group of gunmen last night, police said.

It could be a fallout of intra-party fighting of the
CPI(M), since Soren had refused to rally behind the party a
few months ago, they added.
