Kolkata: A 15-year-old student reportedly committed suicide after being allegedly beaten up by his teacher in Jalpaiguri district for damaging a bench in the class.
The victim was a class 9 student in Phanindra Deb High School and took the extreme step on Monday, ten days after the incident, as per news report.
The teacher allegedly thrashed the student with a duster after he broke a classroom bench. The headmaster then summoned his parents and asked them to pay Rs 5000 for the damages and withdraw him from the school.
The student was so badly beaten that his hands remained swollen for days, victim’s mother said, as per report.
A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the headmaster and the teacher who are absconding.
