Barasat: Union minister Mukul Roy`s son
and Trinamool Congress candidate Subhranshu Roy was on Monday
remanded in jail custody for a day after a local court
rejected his bail prayer.
Roy, who is contesting from Bijpur Assembly constituency,
was produced in the court of Additional Chief Judicial
Magistrate, Barrackpore, Rajarshi Basu Adhikary.
The magistrate directed the police to submit the case
diary before the court tomorrow and remanded him in jail
custody for a day.
Roy had been absconding after the Election Commission
ordered his arrest for assaulting EC officials and was
arrested yesterday after a rally by Trinamool Congress chief
Mamata Banerjee at Naihati.
The Commission had on Tuesday filed an FIR at the Bijpur
police station against Roy and 10 others for assaulting
members of an EC team which had gone to erase wall writings on
public and private buildings.
The EC had later suspended inspector in-charge Partha
Pratim Roy for failing to arrest the offender.
The CPI(M) had demanded Roy`s arrest for disrespecting
the Election Commission.
