Two more arrested in Dhupguri rape-murder case

Two persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the suspected rape and murder of a girl, whose body was found near the railway tracks at Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district last Tuesday.

Siliguri Railway Police SP Debasish Sarkar said that the Government Railway Police made the arrests at Moynaguri, near Dhupguri.

With this, the number of arrests made in connection with the incident rose to three. Yesterday a juvenile, aged about 14-15 years, was apprehended.

When the two arrested persons were brought by the police to the Jalpaiguri district court for production before the district judge, they were prevented by SUCI activists.

SUCI zilla committee member Amal Ray said, "We want real culprits to be arrested."

Students of the school where the girl studied and those of other schools gheraoed the Dhupguri police station in protest against the incident.

Congress and CPI-M supporters also demonstrated near the home of the slain girl. Members of the CPI-M's womens' wing also demonstrated tying their mouths with black cloth.

On the other hand, TMC supporters demonstrated before the Dhupguri police station alleging that the opposition parties were spreading lies about the complicity of their party men in the incident.
