Visva-Bharati internal quota system to remain

Visva-Bharati authorities on Sunday decided to continue with the existing 'internal quota' system for the students of the university-run schools to undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

Santiniketan: Visva-Bharati authorities on Sunday decided to continue with the existing 'internal quota' system for the students of the university-run schools to undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

A notification signed by D Gunasekharan, Registrar of Visva-Bharati, said, "The existing system of admission of Patha Bhavan and Siksha Satra students to the undergraduate programme will remain in place. The existing system of admission from undergraduate to postgraduate curricula will continue."

The notification was put up at around 10.20 pm as a section of teachers, employees and students launched an indefinite dharna and classes remained suspended for more than one week.

The Vice-Chancellor Sushanta Datta Gupta appealed to the students to return to classes.

On February 6, HRD Ministry asked the VC to resolve the issue in the interest of students. VC had discussed the matter with officials of the ministry during the vice chancellors conference at Rashtrapati Bhawan to end the stalemate in the campus.

Visva-Bharati authorities wanted to scrap the quota system for the school students to undergraduate courses and post-graduate courses. It sparked a row in the campus and the students, teachers and guardians went on an agitation.
