Australia intercepts another vessel carrying about 56 people

Oz border authorities intercepted another vessel carrying about 56 people near Ashmore Island off Western Oz.

Melbourne: Australian border authorities
today intercepted another vessel carrying about 56 people near
Ashmore Island off Western Australia, a day after 28 asylum
seekers were killed in a boat tragedy.

Officers from Border Protection Command from HMAS
Glenelg intercepted the suspected irregular entry vessel this
afternoon, according to an AAP report.

The group was being transferred to Christmas Island
where they`ll undergo security, identity and health checks.

Home Affairs Minister Brendan O`Connor said media
reports of another asylum seeker boat being spotted off the
coast of Christmas Island are false.

But a spokeswoman for O`Connor said earlier reports of
another boat arriving off the coast of Christmas Island were
wrong.

"What people have seen is an existing vessel being
unloaded," she said.
