Bangkok: Two Thai military rangers have been killed and 11 others injured in a bomb attack in Thailand`s southern province of Yala as violence continued despite a peace deal between the government and Muslim rebels.
Two rangers were killed and six others wounded in the attack which also injured four civilians. A military vehicle was damaged at the scene.
According to the police, the bomb went off when the military vehicle carrying rangers arrived at the scene.
A badly-damaged motorcycle was found nearby and the police believe a home-made bomb, weighing at least 10 kilograms, might have been planted on the motorcycle.
The attack follows after Thai government agreed to hold talks with Barisan Revolusi Nasional, part of a web of shadowy insurgent groups in the south on Thursday.
On Friday, twin bombings struck Narathiwat, one of three Muslim-majority province near the Malaysian border where a nine-year insurgency has claimed more than 5,500 lives.
The latest attack is believed to be the work of Roki Dolae, a leading insurgent who is still active in Yala.
