Bush says he's 'evolved' on unwed motherhood

Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush says his views toward single mothers "have evolved" since he suggested 20 years ago that they were becoming too accepted by society.

Warsaw: Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush says his views toward single mothers "have evolved" since he suggested 20 years ago that they were becoming too accepted by society.

In a 1996 book, Bush and co-author Brian Yablonski expressed concern about changing cultural values that were stripping away the stigma attached to unwed motherhood.

Bush now says the book was a policy piece on cultural indicators and, despite its tone on single mothers, the focus was more on holding fathers accountable.

He says he's evolved in his views about single mothers but not on his conviction that fathers should be involved in their children's lives.

Bush made the comments to reporters in Poland today after meeting officials in Warsaw.
