Lagos: Police in Nigeria say a car has exploded in a city near Nigeria`s capital, wounding one person.

The explosion happened on Sunday morning in the city of Suleja in Niger state. Police spokesman Richard Oguche said the blast wounded one person on a busy road near hotels in the city.

A spokesman for Nigeria`s National Emergency Management Agency issued a statement confirming the blast and asking onlookers to leave the scene to allow rescuers to work.
That area has seen several attacks from a radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram, including a Christmas Day bombing of a Catholic church there that killed at least 44 people.
