Dubai: Eid al-Fitr, the festival that follows the fasting month of Ramadan, will be celebrated across the Gulf region on Thursday.

The first such announcement came from the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia late Wednesday evening.

"Upon testimonies of a number of adult witnesses who confirmed to have seen the new moon of Shawal after sunset this evening, tomorrow (Thursday) is blessed Eid Al-Fitr 1434 H," the Royal Court had said in a statement.

In the UAE, the Moon Sighting Committee announced that on Thursday, August 08, is the first day of Shawwal and is also the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

In Qatar, the Crescent Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Awqaf (Endowments) and Islamic Affairs made a similar announcement last evening.

Rulers across the Gulf region exchanged greetings following the announcement.
