Abidjan: An opposition party
official says four people were killed and 14 wounded after
unidentified men armed with automatic weapons attacked the
office of Ivory Coast`s presidential challenger.
Coulibaly Diomande, a local party security chief, said
today the men attacked Alassane Ouattara`s office late
yesterday after Ivory Coast`s electoral commission failed to
meet a 72-hour deadline to issue results from a tight
presidential runoff millions hoped would restore stability to
the world`s top cocoa producer.
Ouattara`s party accuses incumbent President Laurent
Gbagbo - whose mandate expired five years ago - of trying to
steal the long-awaited ballot. Gbagbo loyalists, apparently
fearing they don`t have enough votes for victory, have
prevented the commission from announcing results.
