Baghdad: Iraqi police say gunmen have killed eight security guards during a break-in at a bank in central Baghdad.
Two police officials say unidentified gunmen broke into the Rafidain Bank in Baghdad`s commercial Karradah district early today morning, killing the guards and making off with a large amount of cash.

One official says an initial investigation shows the gunmen used silencer-equipped weapons because witnesses did not hear any gunfire.

The other official says the robbery appears to be the work of insurgents attempting to finance their operations.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information to the media.
