IAEA starts probe into military use of Iran`s nuclear programme

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Monday said it has started investigation to clear long-standing concerns over possible military links to Iran`s nuclear programme.

Vienna: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Monday said it has started investigation to clear long-standing concerns over possible military links to Iran`s nuclear programme.

The UN nuclear watchdog has taken the first step to investigate the "possible military dimension" of the nuclear programme, IAEA Deputy Director General for Safeguards Tero Varjoranta told reporters at Vienna airport upon his return from Tehran.

According to a joint statement by the IAEA and Iran, they have agreed on seven practical measures to be implemented till May 15 to promote the investigation of Iran`s nuclear programme.

Iran was suspected of conducting nuclear weapon research under the cover of a nuclear programme for civilian use, which Tehran has always denied.
