Israeli sought by India is nabbed in Peru

An Israeli fugitive implicated in a case of alleged corruption between drug traffickers and police in Goa, has been arrested in Peru, police said.

implicated in a case of alleged corruption between drug
traffickers and police in Goa, has been arrested in Peru,
police said on Thursday.

"Yaniv Benaim, age 35, was arrested at Lima`s
international airport on January 7 when he was arriving from
Spain," police Colonel Domingo Gil told RPP Radio.

The suspected drug trafficker "had an valid
international warrant for his capture, at India`s request, on
charges of people smuggling, drug trafficking and official
corruption," Gil added.

Banaim, also known as Atala, was being held at the
Sarita Colonia jail in Callao, the port town next to Lima,
awaiting a judge`s decision on his extradition to India.

The Israeli was arrested last year after secretly
filmed footage of him apparently detailing how some drugs
squad officers gave him confiscated narcotics to sell appeared
on the Internet video-sharing site YouTube.

The revelations -- exposed by the suspect`s former
girlfriend, a Swedish model called Lucky Farmhouse -- led to
the arrest and suspension of seven police officers in India. .

"Atala" later skipped bail and disappeared.
