Abuja: A Nigerian woman journalist who was kidnapped by gunmen has been released unhurt by her captors and reunited with her family, a journalists` union said.
Olubunmi Oke, a reporter with the state-run Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in the southwestern Ondo state, was abducted by four gunmen Thursday evening, leaving behind her a little child and a housemaid, Xinhua reported.
Akinfolayan Owanikin, Ondo state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, said the victim was released unhurt late Saturday and was united with her family Sunday.
"The NUJ wishes to thank all those who played one role or the other in securing her release from the den of kidnappers. We commend the spirited efforts made by the family and we pray that nothing of such will take place in the family and our union again," he said.
NTA general manger Bennie Mordi said the reporter was kidnapped while returning home from work.
The abductors had demanded a ransom of eight million naira (around $500,000) for her release when they contacted her family. But it was unclear whether any ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
