Beirut: Lebanon`s Prime Minister has threatened to resign if the country`s Cabinet refuses to fund a tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of a Lebanese statesman.
A UN-backed court`s investigation of the killing of former prime minister Rafik Hariri has been one of the most divisive issues in Lebanese politics in recent years.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati said in a televised interview on Thursday night that he may resign if next week`s vote falls through.
Four members of the militant group Hezbollah have been indicted for the killing. Hezbollah denies any role in the assassination, and its allies in the government refuse to cooperate with the court.
Western countries have hinted at possible sanctions should Lebanon fail to cooperate with the tribunal.
