Most Chinese see ties with US worsening: Survey

A survey shows most Chinese believe relations with the US worsened last year.

Beijing: A survey shows most Chinese believe relations with the US worsened last year, and the overwhelming majority blame Washington for the decline.

The figures published in the official China Daily newspaper on Monday come just ahead of Chinese President Hu Jintao`s state visit to the US this week.

The figures say 53 percent of those responding saw relations with the US getting worse last year. Just over 80 percent blame the deterioration of ties on Washington.

Hu`s trip intends to restore balance to relations between Beijing and Washington following a year in which the sides sparred over human rights, the Dalai Lama, and arms sales to Taiwan.

The survey was conducted jointly by the China Daily and the Horizon Research Consultancy Group.
