Cairo: The spokesman of Egypt` Muslim Brotherhood was today arrested by army-backed authorities as part of a widening crackdown on Islamists since the ouster of former president Mohammed Morsi.
Spokesman of the Muslim Brotherhood Gehad El-Haddad was arrested from an apartment in Cairo`s Nasr City.
El-Haddad was arrested along with Morsi-era governor of Qalyoubia Hossam Abu El-Bakr.
Muslim Brotherhood has been facing crackdown since the violent dispersal of two sit-ins on August 14 as they were demanding the reinstatement of deposed President Mohammed Morsi.
Morsi was ousted on May 3 by the powerful army.
Since then the security forces have carried out mass arrests of prominent members of the Muslim Brotherhood, many of whom have been charged with `inciting violence and murder.`
