Manama: Hundreds of mourners are gathering in Bahrain for the funeral of a protester, who his family say died as police were dispersing Shi’ite demonstrators rallying against Sunni rulers near an American naval base.
The protester`s uncle says his 16-year-old nephew, Ali Youssef Bagdar, died after a police vehicle ran over him during a demonstration early Saturday in Juffair area of the capital Manama.
A report by the state-run Bahrain News Agency says a police vehicle skidded into a group of "rioters" due to an oil spill on the road, killing the boy.
More than 30 people have died since February, when Bahrain`s Shi’ite majority started campaigning for greater rights in the Gulf kingdom, the home of the US Navy`s 5th Fleet.
