Moscow: The Russian government has warned the country`s media over 30 times for spreading information related to extremism in 2009, Communications Minister Igor Shchegolev told a State Duma meeting on Wednesday.

The Russian national media regulator Roskom Nadzor keeps a close watch on media organisations for any violation of the legislation that regulates content used by the country`s media.
"Roskomnadzor considers different claims and cases of
legislation violation," the minister said. "If the expert
group proves that the law on information was broken, companies
receive a warning irrespective of whether these are private
companies or companies with state participation," he said.

"If the court recognizes such claims as just, relevant
measures will be taken," Shchegolev said.
In 2009 the country`s media received "33 warnings for
extremism-related information, 5 warnings for drug trafficking
propaganda, 4 warnings for pornography, 2 warnings for the use
of media sources to commit criminal offences and 23 warnings
for the spread of information protected by the federal laws
such as state secret and legally protected secret," he said.
