Moscow: President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree instituting the position of Russia`s ombudsman for the rights of children.
By the same decree, he appointed Alexei Golovan to the post. He also called the defence of children`s rights "a very subtle sphere."
"Along with this, it`s a crucial social sphere that requires separate supervision and that`s why I signed a decree on the issue," Medvedev said.
The decree empowers to ombudsman to get access to get all the necessary documents and press the children`s rights agencies for the decisions necessary for ensuring the rights.
Also, the ombudsman will have the power to demand that the legislative acts related to the rights of children undergo appropriate expert examinations.
"This is very complicated work and it demands much spiritual strength because it can`t be done purely technically," Medvedev said.
"At the same time, it demands a lot of energies for defending the interests of children in the situations where the state finds it necessary to give enforced protection to the rights of one or another child."
Golovan promised, on his part, that the institute of the ombudsman for children`s rights would be an efficiently working and open one, thus facilitating the clearing of systemic problems that arise in the protection of childhood.
