London: Protestors in San Francisco have stripped off to oppose lawmaker’s decision to approve a ban on nudity in public.
The new bill, approved by lawmakers in San Francisco’s City Hall, makes it illegal for residents and visitors to bare their genitals in most public places.
The city`s Board of Supervisors voted 7-4 in favour of the ban that was introduced in response to a group of nudists that regularly gathers in the city`s predominantly gay Castro District, the Telegraph reports.
But the ruling was met with anger by protestors, who shed their clothes in the chambers and started shouting at members of the board, the paper said.
According to the report, the group was led out of the chambers and draped in blankets.
One protestor was taken into custody for resisting arrest, the paper said.
Mayor Edwin Lee is expected to sign the measure, which is scheduled to go into effect February 1.
According to the paper, opponents already have brought a lawsuit seeking to get it overturned on free speech grounds.
