Washington: Several parts of US was buried in over a foot of snow triggering fears of loss of lives after a massive snowstorm slammed the northeastern parts of the country.

The storm covered over 1,000 km stretch between Kentucky and Massachusetts with Philadelphia and Boston being the worse-hit.

Philadelphia was buried in around 30 cm of snow while New York and New Jersey received around 25 cm and 39.4 cm of snow respectively, as per an international news agency report.
The severe winter storm triggered fear of deaths with at least one person being reportedly killed in Maryland.

The storm is not similar to the polar vortex that freezed US around two weeks ago. The massive snowstorm originated off the coast and is headed to the Eastern Snowboard, as per report.
Normal life was thrown out of gear after around 3,000 flights were reportedly grounded and schools and government offices were shut down.
