Spain is "very happy" Scotland has voted against breaking away from Britain, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said on Friday, as he faced down a bid by the Catalonia region for its own independence vote.

Madrid: Spain is "very happy" Scotland has voted against breaking away from Britain, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said on Friday, as he faced down a bid by the Catalonia region for its own independence vote.

"We are very happy that Scotland is staying with us," Rajoy said in a recorded video message, hailing the result as positive for "the integration of the European Union".
