Tokyo: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.0
hit eastern Japan late on Thursday, rattling buildings in Tokyo but
appearing to cause no damage and there was no tsunami warning.

The tremor struck at a depth of 70 kilometres (43 miles),
off Chiba prefecture, at 10:37 pm (1337 GMT), the Japan
Meteorological Agency said.
