Swine flu: Kuwait reports 54 new cases

Kuwait health authorities on Sunday confirmed 54 new swine flu cases, raising the total number of infected persons in the country to 265.

The condition of those found with infected with the virus is not serious. "New cases have been allowed to receive necessary medication at home," Health Ministry was quoted as saying by KUNA news agency.

Majority of swine flu patients are aged between 16 and 35 and the authorities are taking all measures required to contain the disease, ministry spokesman Yussef al-Nesif said, adding that most of the patients have been discharged from hospital after treatment.

Meanwhile, Oman`s Control and Follow-up Committee of swine flu disease yesterday announced registration of 43 new cases in the Sultanate in the past few days. Though most of the cases diagnosed last week have been cured after treatment at home.

Five cases are under observation in hospitals while the total number of registered cases in the Sultanate since the outbreak of the pandemic stands at 198, the committee said.

Oman Health Ministry has advised its citizens to visit health centres in case of any symptoms of the disease.

Supervisory Committee for Combating Swine Flu in the UAE has also warned healthcare facilities that legal action would be taken if any of them failed to comply with the notification for prevention of infectious diseases.
