Thai authorities arrest 4 students opposed to military rule

Authorities in Thailand have arrested members of a student group opposed to military rule.

Bangkok: Authorities in Thailand have arrested members of a student group opposed to military rule, including one snatched off the street and bundled into a vehicle that took him away.

Four members of the New Democracy Movement were taken to military court on Thursday to be charged with violating an order banning groups of 5 or more people from gathering publicly for political purposes.

Last month, the students were blocked en route to a protest at a park built under army patronage.

The students sought to bring attention to allegations that corruption was involved in the park's construction.

Siriwich Serithiwat was seized Wednesday night by unidentified men, and three others were arrested when they went to the police station Thursday to lend him moral support.
